- Shortcuts only

The next issue will tell more detailed stories, this time we'll focus on Shortcuts only. But the main news is, of course, the present October/November tour with the magnificent Zu from Rome, and the new recordings in late November for the new album.

Shortcuts
+++ The last couple of months we've been practising a lot, finishing the songs that we want to play live first and then record in the studio, As for the rest, we bought a new van (yellow this time, because the red ones get stolen too often), and after recording the new CD (in France, and once again with Steve Albini) in late November, we'll have to search for a new practice-room, as the building we're in now will be torn down. +++ The new album will be out on Ex Records Holland and Touch And Go USA, and it's scheduled for release in April. Simultaneously we will release a CD in Holland with the live-recordings of the Ex Orkest project we did early this summer, which was a big success. Sung in Dutch, so you'd better be careful! +++ That's also the reason the singles-compilation is delayed once again. (Sok doesn't even dare to mention another release-date anymore!) +++ Meanwhile the mayor of Amsterdam and his obedient servants of the law are making fools of themselves by heading for the eviction of the Kalenderpanden at the Entrepotdok, the best place in town for interesting non-commercial concerts and exhibitions. Big blah blah about wishing to make Amsterdam a breeding place for Alternative Culture while at the same time killing all the spots that already have been breeding this kind of culture like hell for ages! +++ Kalenderpanden get a lot of support, from all corners of the local cultural globe, so maybe there is still a little chance that the city will come to its senses. +++ After twelve years we return to Croatia (Zagreb) and Slovenia (Ljubljana)! +++ Terrie's successful duo-CDs on Terp Records with respectively Ab Baars en Han Benink will be released in the US by Atavistic Records from Chicago. +++ Scheduled on Terp Records early next year is the first CD since a very long time of Eritrean singer Tsehaytu Beraki. +++ In late November Sok will publish his first book in Dutch, "Van God Los", a compilation of the nonsensical no-nonsense columns he wrote over the years under the name of Goeroe Overflakkee for the alternative Dutch music magazine Opscene (which, by the way, unfortunately enough ceased to exist for about two months). In his native tongue though, so start learning to read Dutch if you wanna know what he had to say all these years! +++ Kat and Luc will do a one-off gig with the German trombone-player Paul Hubweber in Oberhausen's Druckluft venue. +++ Kaffe Matthews and Andy plan to release a new CD within the next few months on the new label Unsound. +++ 4Walls featuring Luc will tour France from March 22 till April 1st. An album is scheduled for April also. +++ Maybe The Ex will do a short France tour in February, too. +++ We're invited to play at the British All Tomorrow's Parties three days festival in coming April. Other bands on the bill are a.o. Tortoise, Calexico, Sea & Cake, and very likely Sun Ra Arkestra, Yo La Tengo, Björk and the original line-up of Television. +++ Maybe we'll manage to organize a little trip through England around this event. Would be our first one over there since 1994! +++ Okay, that's all. +++ Newsletter 9 arrives in April 2001. +++ Till then. +++
